Is manufacturing vending really free?
Yes — at qualifying sites. The operator funds equipment, install, restock, and service in exchange for the placement. Most plants with 80+ on-site workers per shift qualify; smaller sites may need a beverage-only unit or a shared placement with a neighboring plant to make the math work.
How does vending differ from a full micro market?
Vending is a single machine. A micro market is an unmanned attended-retail area — open shelving, refrigerators and freezers, fresh food, self-checkout. Micro markets fit plants with 200+ workers and a dedicated breakroom; vending fits the rest. Most large plants run both: floor-adjacent vending for quick grabs, micro market in the main break area for full meals.
Does our union need to approve?
Often, yes. Union approval is most commonly required when vending replaces or modifies a previously-negotiated amenity (existing snack-shop, free coffee program, cafeteria). Greenfield placements (new machine where none existed) usually pass without formal approval but still benefit from union consultation. The operator coordinates with HR.
What about food safety in our allergen-controlled plant?
Allergen-controlled plants (food production, pharma) need vending placed outside the controlled zone or — where on-zone placement is required — with full-allergen-controlled SKU sourcing and a dedicated restock route that doesn't cross-contaminate the line. The operator works with the plant's QA team to lock down the planogram and route.
Can the program scale across multiple plants?
Yes. Multi-site operators run regional or national contracts with consistent SKUs, payment systems, branding, and telemetry across every plant. Reporting rolls up to the corporate level so HR and operations can see consumption, retention correlation, and ROI at the network level.
